How often does an EICR need to be carried out??

Frequency of testing varies depending upon the type and usage of the electrical installation. Here are some popular types and maximum period between inspections:

  • Industrial - 3 Years
  • Commercial - 5 Years or change of occupancy
  • Offices - 5 Years
  • Retail - 5 Years
  • Domestic - 10 Years
  • Rented accommodations - 5 Years or change of occupancy

What happens if anything is found to be wrong resulting from an EICR?

Any ‘non-compliance’ issues are recorded in the EICR along with supporting images. Here are the ratings explained:

Unsatisfactory

  • C1 - Danger present, immediate remedial action required
  • C2 - Potentially dangerous, urgent remedial work required - notice to complete remedial work within 30 days
  • FI – Further investigation required

Satisfactory

  • C3 - Recommendations for improvement or advisories for improvement are given.  

What is an EICR also known as?
